Maccabeat is a musical set in biblical times featuring Hanukkah hero Judah Maccabee, who is torn between his father’s religious orthodoxy and the modern world around him. He tries out for the Olympics, falls in love with a beautiful Greek “goddess,” Allura, played by Margaret Anne Florence, and discovers his destiny. Along the way, there’s doo-wop, a boy band, bad guy Antiochus and the world’s first Valley Girl. Forget the business about the oil lasting for 8 nights — THIS is the true story of Hanukkah…sort of.
